What's It  All About... Pilates

So what is pilates...

... people ask me this all the time.

The principles that its founder Joseph Pilates built into his discipline can be found pretty much anywhere (check out google, or of course get in touch). But I’ve found that there’s so much more to the modern concept. Let me explain. 

For me Pilates is somewhere between a treatment and an exercise programme. We start with an initial consultation to understand what is happening with your body and what your goals are. With this is mind, we can move forward with a tailored exercise program designed just for you. This will greatly help us understand why you get that tightness or that niggling pain and work towards strengthening and lengthening where you need it. 

This will not replace the work you may do with your physio or other health professionals, but it will definitely complement it and may mean you have to visit them less frequently. We all want to move efficiently and pain free, rather than just treating the symptom, let me help you find the imbalance and correct it.

What is your life about? Surfing, dancing, your job, maybe you’re a runner or just love lifting weights? Whatever your life is about you’ll want your body to keep up. This is where Pilates will compliment the rest of your lifestyle.
